Dangers of Bad Pool Pumps – Fire
Pool pumps should be maintained like any other electrical equipment. The picture above, and the others below, are all from a fire started by a pool pump. Technically, it was the pump motor.
This isn’t a common occurrence, but the small oversite turned out to be a costly one. This pump was actually in great shape, but someone had pushed piles of mulch right up against it. The heat from motor, and the fact that the mulch was blocking the air that normally cools the motor, AND the heat from a typical Orlando day, all added up to a fire that completely damaged the pump, and parts of the house.
Make sure you check your pump and make sure it’s clear of mulch and grass. The few seconds it takes to keep the area cleared out could save you thousands.
