Looking to same money on your next electric bill? These sun-catching “lily pads” will help absorb that much-needed heat you’re looking for, and insulate your pool – perfect for screened in pools that are still about 10 degrees cooler than their unscreened friends.

Make Magazine’s version of these pool warmers involve some pretty heavy artillery (see the video above), but if you don’t have a grinder or soldering iron handy, you can probably experiment with other methods of attaching the black polyethylene film to the hula hoops. Whether that be glue, staples, or even some ever-useful binder clips, all you really need is to get them sturdily attached so they can absorb the sun’s heat and insulate your pool.

Weekend Project: Lily Pad Pool Warmers [Make]

I’m a bit of a techie, so I was shocked to see this product went completely under my radar. Speedo (yeah, those guys), makes a pretty impressive waterproof mp3 player, which might make the perfect stocking stuffer for the swimmer(s) in your family.

It’s called the Speedo Aquabeat. It comes in 3 colors, and though the specs won’t blow you away compared to your iPod, you have to remember….this thing goes in the water!

Not sure how fun it is to swim with headphones in, but looking at the device, it really doesn’t seem to “in the way.”

A Titusville woman woke up Friday morning to find a stranger in her swimming pool, only this stranger had sharp teeth and claws.

It appears an alligator decided to take a dip in her pool. The nearly 5-foot reptile was fished out of the water by wildlife officers.

Agents with Florida Fish and Wildlife said alligators are especially aggressive this time of year because we are in the peak of mating season.

Our top pick is this stuff, Gelli Baff from the UK, it turns bathtubs of water into goo – no really, thick like beaded snot, but in fun fruit flavors – then back to water so it can go down the drain.
